At the end April we’ve got the exciting opportunity of speaking at the SharePoint Saturday in Belgium. If you’ve not come across SharePoint Saturday’s before then they are a brilliant, community led, conference which typically happen every year (and all over the world).
Here at Mando we use PowerShell alongside our SharePoint development which allows us to control and manage our deployments and configuration. This is what Adam Burcher, our specialist SharePoint programmer, is going to cover during his talk – showing just how flexible and useful PowerShell can really be. PowerShell isn’t just for SharePoint, but is becoming more and more common amongst a lot of Microsoft products. Whilst typically it falls into the IT Admin remit, PowerShell is extremely useful (and arguably essential) for a developer as well. The out of the box commands that come with SharePoint are very useful, but being able to exploit the SharePoint Object Model and write your own means what you can do is almost endless. It means if you can write the C# code for it, the chances are you can write the PowerShell too.
During the session Adam will be walking through how PowerShell can be used at each phase of a site roll out, from installation and through the way through to custom deployment of code, configuration and content! Watch this space for more details!

One of our senior designers, Joanne Finch, has taken on the mighty challenge of running the Liverpool marathon this October. She is running to raise money for the Countess of Chester appeal, Relative Comfort, who are collecting funds so they can create a “home from home” environment for the relatives of patients in the critical care unit.
Over the coming months, the Mando Group Foundation is going to support Joanne with her mammoth challenge and we’ve adopted her charity for the remainder of 2011. To launch our adoption of the charity we are holding Mando Group’s very own Wii-mbledon, a tennish championship with a difference. Our staff have been battling it out on the Wii to become the Nadal or Williams of Mando Group.
Today our 4 finalists will be donning their tennis whites and stepping up to the challenge to determine the Mando Wii-mbledon Champion of 2011. Matches will commence at about 5pm so check out the players profiles below and keep up to date on Twitter @mandogroup and if you would like to support a player you can make a donation.
Semi finals: Chris Vs Oli followed by George Vs Dan
Final: Chris vs George

2010 will see digital agency Mando Group officially launch the Mando Group Foundation, to enable a significant portion of its profits to be donated to good causes. As an exciting precursor to the launch, Mando Group’s founders have laid down ‘The Awesome £100 Challenge’.
Each of the company’s 45 staff has been handed £100 and challenged to grow that fund as much as they can. All the proceeds raised will be added to the fund available to good causes via Mando Group Foundation grants. The company’s charitable foundation is managed by The Community Foundation for Merseyside.
The challenge will run throughout December and January and will culminate with an award ceremony at the Mando Group Foundation launch party. Prizes will be awarded for the most amount of money raised and the most creative or entrepreneurial methods used. The only rules are that the methods used to raise the cash must be legal, honest and decent.
Speaking about the initiative Mando Group’s CEO, Matt Johnson said:
“We’ve started the Mando Group Foundation as a way for our company and our staff to make a positive difference. The challenge should be a lot of fun for everyone and promises to raise many thousands of pounds for good causes”.

Liverpool digital agency, Mando Group, have launched the online hub www.artforplaces.com for 3-year public art project ‘Art for Places’.
Art for Places aims to deliver regeneration through inspiration and will help communities use public art to reshape their neighbourhoods. The initiative is a partnership between NewHeartlands (Housing Market Renewal pathfinder for Merseyside), Liverpool Biennial and Arts Council England, along with local authorities and housing associations. It will create a public art commission for each of the three areas involved in the project: Sefton, Wirral, and Liverpool.
Mando Group already works with both arts and regeneration organisations, making the project a natural fit for them. This year they won a ‘Big Chip’ award for their work with not-for-profit organisation Liverpool Biennial.
As a unique new initiative the Art for Places project needed a simple, yet powerful online hub to ensure people can readily grasp and engage with the concept. Mando Group rose to the challenge by creating an up-to-date, feature-rich and user-friendly website which supports the existing Art for Places branding, all within the quick turnaround time required for the project.
Features of the site include Web 2.0 integration, with Flickr galleries and Google Search, plus other facilities to encourage community participation, including mailing list sign-ups. Plus Mando Group have also integrated 3rd party forms with an online management area for their client, completing the excellent value for money package provided.
Speaking about the project Mando Group CEO, Matt Johnson said,
“ We’re delighted to be involved with such a worthwhile initiative and with the resulting site. The Liverpool region has much to offer its residents and we’re proud to be helping it build on those assets to ensure future success.”
