La Machine comes to Liverpool

Posted by: Gemma McGreal | 05 September 2008

SpiderTravelling to work by train this morning was a journey like no other. My journey to the office felt more like an adventure, not just something I was taking part in but the whole of Merseyside. Sitting on the train this morning, there was no need to listen to my MP3 player as everyone was talking about one thing ‘La Machine’.

It has taken six months of planning and today was the day the mysterious creature was being unveiled. My local radio station had revealed its location, and I was ready armed with my camera and mobile phone!

On exiting Lime Street station, I walked at a faster pace than usual, along with many other commuters who got off one or two stops earlier, just to take a look. Liverpool city centre had come to a complete stand still. The usual hustle and bustle of the City Centre had stopped, as commuters were startled by a huge curled up spider bathing in the morning sun hanging from the side of Concourse House.

It was like something out of a film set, as everyone drew breath and waited for it to move. But it didn’t, we have to wait and let our imaginations run away with themselves for the time being until the weekend. When La Machine will spin us all a tale so magical that the entire city will fall under its spell. Prepare to be amazed by a show that will make you believe in the impossible. All I know is I can’t wait for the weekend.
