Africa 3: A forgotten land
Posted by: Matt Johnson | 15 October 2007
Well, we have been here a few days now, I guess it’s starting to feel more normal, but the needs are overwhelming. Everywhere you look there are street kids, they are not hungry just very poor.
We met with three local organisations today who work with abused women, child soldiers and street kids, it was humbling to hear their stories. They were all using the social enterprise model to re-habilitate.
It is interesting, the UN are everywhere doing both peace keeping and humanitarian work, however we haven’t seen any NGOs working here. It is true to say that the Congo really is a forgotten land.
Only a few days left in Africa, crossing the border into Uganda today which should be interesting!
