Infrastructure Specialist

We are looking for an experienced infrastructure specialist who is passionate about using technology to meet internal business and external client needs.

The successful candidate will work within an existing team to ensure the smooth running of all internal infrastructure and systems, but also offering hosting infrastructure and applications consultancy and implementation for clients.

Key responsibilities include:

Internal

  • To ensure maximum availability of computer systems throughout the Company.
  • Responsible for the provision and maintenance of IT infrastructure services including applications, networks, IT security and telecommunications.
  • Development and implementation of new systems.
  • Leading and contributing to IT strategy; working with senior management to propose, agree and deliver IT services to defined Service Level Agreements.
  • Responsible for the IT hardware, software and maintenance procurement, and liaising with 3rd party suppliers.
  • To contribute to and maintain a disaster recovery plan and IT security policy.

External

  • To work within the team to consult with clients regarding enterprise hosting solutions, gathering requirements, researching technical offerings, and following through implementation.
  • To work with the Managed Services team to ensure business as usual activities of support, maintenance, and release management of client websites and online systems are conducted to set processes within agreed service levels and quality standards. This includes security patching reports and monitoring alerts for hosted websites and applications.
  • To be part of a 24/7 support rota.

Essential skills / experience:

  • Business applications using Microsoft technologies including Windows Server 2008, Active Directory, DNS, Exchange Server 2007/2010 and SQL-Server 2005/2008.
  • Hosting solutions using Microsoft technologies including IIS6/7.
  • Virtualisation using Microsoft Hyper-V plus high availability.
  • Exposure to some or all of the following Microsoft technologies: System Centre, Data Protection Manager, ForeFront, Lync Server, Team Foundation Server, Dynamics CRM and Project Server.
  • Exposure to PowerShell for automation of configuration settings.
  • Exposure to penetration and load testing.
  • Customer communication and management.
  • Degree level education.

Desirable skills / experience:

  • Design, planning, installation, configuration and governance of Microsoft SharePoint server farms.
  • Implementation of FAST search technology.
  • Web content management systems including OpenText (RedDot), Alterian, EPiServer, Umbraco and WordPress.
  • Implementation of ITIL practices and governance of IT services.
  • Asset management and software licensing management.
  • Monitoring hosted sites and experience in different security services e.g. IDS.
